December wishlist - White Delight

I've actually been organized enough to create a treasury of my favorite items just before Christmas. And what better way to end the year, than with an all white wishlist. If I had unlimited funds, I'd bathe my house in white and fill it with white items such as these. Perhaps I'm dreaming of a white Christmas – something we don't experience here in South Australia (although it is apparently snowing across the border in Victoria - a very rare occurrence for December!) I'll just keep on dreaming....

The essence of gift giving

Hello lovely people,

I came across this amazingly inspiring video about gift giving and receiving and how some gifts have wonderful stories behind them. What a precious act it is to give a gift with a lot of time, care and thought behind it. With all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, it is sometimes easy to forget the true essence of gift giving. This footage says it all....
Click here to view the video. Enjoy, and may you give and receive heartfelt gifts this Christmas season.

Donating to breast cancer

Hello again fellow bloggers,

I've been asked by a friend to donate some artwork to be auctioned off as part of a fundraising event for breast cancer. I've chosen a set of images called my 'meditation' series and am donating them as A5 prints. I really hope they sell well on the 'girls night in' charity event, to help support research and awareness of breast cancer. Read all about it here.

I'll be displaying some photos as examples of framing. The beauty with these prints is they can be framed individually or as a set within one huge frame, as shown. They suit any interior, from funky and modern to classic 60's retro. They can be framed in wood or metal and even look good against a black background. I hope to add a bit of vintage glam to someone's home soon.

I feel very honored to donate towards such a worthy cause, and send positive thoughts to those who have been touched by breast cancer and those who are currently fighting the battle against it.

Christmas is just around the corner!

Hello everybody!

How time flies! Where have the last 3 months gone?

And what's happened to my followers listing on this page? I can't see it! I hope you lovely people are still able to read this.

It's time to get out of my creative rut and back into the world of blogging and selling (or trying to)! I have soooo much to pack in to the following week, I don't know where to start. I have yet another dance concert coming up on the 23rd Nov (it only seems like yesterday that I performed in the midyear one) and this one's a doozie! I've volunteered to be usherette at the front door, collecting tickets etc. I'll be in my tap dancing costume (red shimmer halterneck top with short black skirt and sexy long black gloves). I never thought I'd be doing this at age 45! You're never too old! I still have to locate skin tone gloss stockings, fishnet stockings, convertible brassiere (in French accent), black boyleg shorts/pants...and....paint my tan tap shoes black! I was hoping to get a spray tan somewhere in there also, so I don't glow lily white on stage.

Well, one thing at a time. First and foremost, a sneak peak at my latest Christmas card designs. I only managed 4 new designs this year, because they are a bit more labor intensive with the cut-outs and gluing (all hand done by moi). They still maintain a touch of vintage nostalgia (which I always love), and will be available in my Etsy shop as single cards or in sets.
I hope you like them :)

Let's dance!!!

Yet again, my freelance (advertising) work has kept me away from my true passion - creating and sharing my art with you. Last week was one of my busiest work weeks yet, and I was suffering withdrawal symptoms from not doing my own thing.

Another favorite hobby of mine is dance. Yes it's true! I never got a chance to do any dance classes as a young girl, (art got in the way), so I do dancing as an adult. I sweat it out once a week doing adult jazz and tap classes. I must say, it's more fun than I first anticipated. I'm with a great group of ladies and we have a ball! We've even done a live performance in front of 400 people (last December). Now our the mid-year concert is a week away.

My wonderful dance teacher suggested I do up some postcards or promo material for my on-line shop to place on each table at the concert. I was going to throw a few business cards around, then I thought bookmarks might be better. (They're like business cards that you actually use.) So I came up with 8 designs, all with a dance theme, and all referencing the color crimson (to tie in with my business name.) I spent 2 days designing, and have until Friday to print, cut, and attach ribbon. It was fun, and I think they turned out well. My name and shop site are printed on the reverse side. It's amazing what one can do under a short time limit!

And yet more treasuries!!!

I love being included in Etsy treasuries! It's such an honour. The first "Let's face it" was curated by the shop owner of hippopotamejewelry. She included my postcard pack "Meditation series" amongst other delightful "face" items.

The next treasury is by Australian shop owner Maddo of Maddabling. She included my "beauty queen" mini print in this nostalgic treasury by the same name "Beauty Queen." I just love the vintage pink hairdryer and the feather eyelashes!

All the fun of the fair!

I don't know why but I've become obsessed with fair ground rides – not so much the actual rides themselves, but the way they are photographed and portrayed, enhanced, colorized – full of brights and pastels, with lighting effects, graininess, old world charm etc. Visually, they are stunning works of photography, full of nostalgia and so compelling. I didn't realise how popular a subject this is to photographers. I feel my feeble attempts at doing this don't compare to some of the works I've come across. I have a long way to go! But it's fun playing with colors and textures in photoshop.
If anyone has any info on how to create/simulate bokeh effects (the shimmery, sparkly, blurry lens effects that appear in some photos), please post your links here. In the meantime, enjoy these pics–the last one is mine!

Shimmer & Shine + Turquoise treasuries

Yay! I've been included in 2 new treasuries on Etsy! Both feature a mini-print from my vintage dress series. The first is 'Shimmer & Shine' and was curated by missyellen on Etsy. She's a fellow Aussie from Brisbane.

The second is a 'Turquoise' treasury curated by MyHauntedAttic on Etsy. She's from Wales. I love both treasuries and feel honoured to be included. Thank you ladies!

Moroccan Daydream - New print in-store

Following on from the Eastern inspired theme, I've recently created this piece which is full of exotic foreign motifs and jewel inspired colours. This piece is available in my Etsy shop as an A5 print. I've always dreamed of going to Morocco and walking through an exotic bazaar. It would be like taking a step back in day...!

Vintage, oriental, eastern inspired postcards

I'm happy to reveal my new set of postcards. These have been a work in progress for some time now, as some of the images were purchased on Ebay. These postcards feature digitally altered eastern vintage beauties. I was greatly inspired and blown away by the collage art of Nick Bantock. (Google him to view his work, he's a fantastic artist!).

Stay tuned as I upload each postcard to my shop. Each postcard is professionally printed on 350gsm cardstock and measures 5.83 x 4.13 inches (14.57 x 10.3 cms). The image side is laminated to a high gloss finish, making the colors even more vibrant. I think they turned out beautifully. I'll have to keep a set for myself!

Handmade from Crimson Circle Studios

I am venturing into handmade collage, and made these bookmarks about a month ago, just after registering my new shop. I must admit they were more time consuming than I thought they'd be, and once you've glued or rubbed down the elements, they're permanent–so lots of design pre-planning!

These bookmarks were inspired by dreamy fashion pics from my old magazine collection. They are made of sturdy cardstock, with various scrapbooking papers, rub-on embellishments, cut and hand colored photocopies, and finished with a long matching ribbon.

All are for sale at

Important Shop announcement

Hello again.
Due to business name registration issues, The Lucid Image has had to change names. I have registered a new business name 'Crimson Circle Studios' and will be operating under this name in the future. (This will incorporate my freelance advertising/design work as well as my online shop.) Until I have cleared The Lucid Image shop of items, you will be able to access both stores over the next few months.

This blog site will eventually revert to
but at present remains:

To celebrate my new shop, I have created my first ever Etsy treasury featuring all the things I love. A wish list of sorts. Hope you like it, please feel free to leave a comment.

Swoon....I'm in a new ETSY treasury!

Hello everyone!

I've sadly neglected my blog. Things have been slow on Etsy lately and I've been busy with my freelance design work throughout March. At last I've found some quiet time to get back into blogging again. I'm always grateful to be included in a treasury with other artists & craftspeople, to know that someone is noticing my work. I've been included in this wonderful treasury called 'Swoon' and it truly has some gorgeous 'swoonworthy' items. Thank you to savagekitten once again for curating such a yummy compilation.

Alice in wonderland

I created this piece as part of the Australian Etsy DUST team challenge. Each month, the DUST team are having a themed sale. For March, the theme is 'Alice in Wonderland.' All items under this theme are on offer at a reduced price for the month only. Next month there will be a new theme and new sale. For more Alice in Wonderland items, search for 'dusteamsale03' on the Etsy site.

I am happy to say that a fellow DUST member included this piece in a wonderful treasury called, you guessed it, 'Alice in Wonderland!' She calls herself Maddo and owns a shop on Etsy called Maddabling. Check her out here
