Faded Lotus

Throughout my time as a graphic designer, I have been drawn to and very much inspired by Asian art and patterns. There's something about the order and restrained simplicity which I love. From calligraphy brush painting to Japanese woodcuts and beautiful colored etchings, ancient porcelain florals - it's all quite breathtaking.

I felt like creating some simple art which is purely based on  color, texture and pattern, nothing more. Just like my 'Life's Journey' pieces, this series is also influenced by a set of papers called 'Faded Lotus'. I just fell in love with these paper designs and colors, some exotic, some subdued, but all very Asian in patterning. It was fun experimenting with pure aesthetics and surface design, and not having to delve into the meaning of an art piece. I think all artists need to do this once in a while, take time to play, and see where the creative process takes you.
These prints and many more available in my shop Crimson Circle Studios.

Blue as far as the eye can see....

I just had to post these beautiful collections of blue items put together by fellow Australian shop owner Sarahsshoppe. Her treasuries feature blue items made by other Australian Etsy shop owners, and I must say, they contain the most beautiful blues! - A reflection of the endless blue summer skies down under in Australia. Blue also happens to be my favorite color! Two of my blue vintage dress prints are included in these collections. Enjoy :)

Angels & Churches

Well it's Valentines Day today here in Australia. I'm feeling a little guilty for not wishing my other half a happy Valentines day as he rushed off to work today. I totally forgot. But he knows I love him and think of him every day. My thoughts go out to another great man who will always be in my heart, my father. He passed away 6 months ago and I miss him dearly, terribly. I hope he's in a good place, wherever that may be, and feels no sorrow or pain, just love and contentment. I created the above montage as a tribute to my father using free images I collected over the internet. Below is the original angel image I used, as well as a few more inspirational photos. Feel free to download them and use them as you please. There is no copyright to them. Please don't sell them or pass them off as your own. Create artworks and collages with a positive energy for those you love.
